Arthur Mattson begins his third season as assistant coach of Polk State College’s Women’s Soccer program.
During his time at Polk, Mattson has helped lead the program to its sixth consecutive NJCAA Region 8 title in 2009 and a No. 15 ranking in the final NJCAA Division I National Poll that same year. Under his assistance, players Gloria Gomez, Nicole Lehman and Jill Maykut were recognized as NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Division I All-Americans.
Mattson is known not only for his coaching merits, but also for his reputation as an educator within the game. He is president of the Florida State Soccer Association, and in 2011 was named to the U.S. Soccer Board of Directors Appeals Committee.
Mattson was born in Lakeland and is a lifelong resident of Polk County. He attended Lakeland High and Polk State College, and earned his bachelor’s degree in 1994 from the University of Florida.
Mattson and his wife, Patti, reside in Lakeland with their children, Aslyn and Walter. In his free time, he enjoys traveling with family and friends, off-shore fishing, and tailgating at Gator football games.
