Trailing 3-2, Polk State exploded for seven runs in the top of the ninth inning last night to beat State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota 9-3in Bradenton.
The Eagles had a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, but the Manatees scored a run in that inning and two in the eighth to go up 3-2.
Trent Sinkfield homered for the third straight game. He also had four RBI for the second game in a row.
Zach Scott went 4-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
Cody Oerther had three singles, a run, and an RBI.
Sam Koruschak doubled, walked twice, and scored once.
Chase Ashby had a single, a walk, a run, and two stolen bases.
Starting pitcher Chavez Fernander held the Manatees to one run in six innings. He allowed five hits and recorded five strikeouts.
Jared Freilich came out of the bullpen to face four batters. He walked two, struck out one, and gave up no runs.
Billy McKay worked the final 2.2 innings, giving up two runs (one unearned) on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
The Eagles (23-20-, 10-11) travel to Tampa on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. game against Hillsborough Community College.
