Former Eagle Zach Schneider has received an invitation to play the rest of this season for the Brewster (Mass.) Whitecaps in the prestigious Cape Cod League.
"I have never been this excited about an opportunity this big," said Schneider. "I'm so pumped!"
The league has been the premier amateur baseball league in the nation since 1885. Players from across the USA and representing all college divisions are recruited to play in the 10-team loop.
Because it uses wooden bats, the league is popular with Major League Baseball scouts. More than 1,100 Cape Cod League alumni have played Major League Baseball.
Schneider received the 2017 Suncoast Conference Fireman of the Year and 2017 FCSAA State Fireman of the Year award awards.
The sophomore from Boca Raton, Fla., had 10 saves and a 5-1 record in 26 games. In 42 innings, he walked only four batters and struck out 39. He allowed six runs and 26 hits.
He will continue his academic and athletic career at Florida Atlantic University.
