Eagles drop regular-season finale

Polk State's regular season – and its 10-game winning streak – ended last night with a 4-3 loss to State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota in Bradenton.

The Eagles put a run on the board in the first inning, but the Manatees tied the game in the second and took a 4-1 lead in the fifth.

Polk State scored a pair of runs in the eighth.

Starting pitcher Chad Tworek took the loss, allowing two runs (one unearned) on five hits in four and two-third innings.

Chavez Fernander, Julio Blanco, Justin Tworek, Cole Crowder, and Justin Gill worked in relief.

Zach Scott went 3-for-4 with two doubles, and two RBI.

Skylar Frey had two singles, two runs, two stolen bases, and a walk.

Cole Warken singled and drove in a run.

The Eagles (40-11, 24-6, No. 2 FCSAA, No. 4 NJCAA) begin play in the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 state tournament May 5 at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland.
