Eagles repeat as Suncoast Conference champs

Polk State won the 2017 Suncoast Conference championship tonight with a 10-0 seven-inning win over South Florida in Avon Park. 

The Eagles have now won four straight conference championships and six in the last seven years. 

Shameko Smith held the Panthers to one hit in seven innings. He walked one and struck out six. 

The Eagles had 12 hits, scoring solo runs in the first and second innings, six in the third, and two in the sixth. 

Zach Scott went 3-for-3 with a triple, two runs, an RBI, and a walk. 

Cole Warken had a home run, a sacrifice, and two RBI. 

Zach Biermann went 2-for-3 with a run, a walk, and two RBI. 

Raudy Martinez singled twice, walked, scored a run, and drove in three runs. 

Zach Diewert had a single, a walk, and two runs. 

Isaiah Cullum walked twice and scored twice. 

Skylar Frey had a walk and a single. 

Jonah Garrison singled and scored. 

The Eagles (37-10, 21-5, No. 2 FCSAA, No. 8 NJCAA) face South Florida again Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.
