Eagles lose 6-5 to Hillsborough

Polk State dropped a 6-5 decision to Hillsborough Community College tonight at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.

The Eagles had a 5-0 lead after six innings, but the Hawks scored a run in the seventh, four in the eighth, and one in the ninth for the win.

Zach Schneider (3-1) took the loss in relief when he allowed an unearned run in the ninth.

Jordan Spicer started on the mound. In six innings he gave up a run on three hits, walking one and striking out eight.

The Hawks also scored an unearned run off Chavez Fernander and three unearned runs off Chad Tworek.

Zach Diewert singled, doubled, scored, and drove in a run.

Skylar Frey went 2-for-5 with a run and a stolen base.

Cole Warken had a pair of singles and a run.

Isaiah Cullum singled, doubled, and drove in two runs.

Raudy Martinez had a single, a run, and a stolen base.

Marquis Orozco singled and scored.

Zach Scott had a double, a sacrifice fly, and an RBI.

The Eagles (19-7, 3-2, No. 3 FCSAA, No. 7 NJCAA) have lost two in a row, both to Hillsborough. They face the Hawks again Saturday at 3 p.m. in Tampa.
