Eagles defeat St. Johns River 12-3

Polk State won its fifth straight game tonight, collecting 14 hits and beating St. Johns River State College 12-3 at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven. 

The Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. 

Cole Warken's bases-loaded single plated a pair of runs, Zach Biermann scored on a wild pitch, and Isaiah Cullum's double scored Warken. 

The Vikings scored a run in the fourth on two singles and a sacrifice, but the Eagles answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. 

Cullum led off with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Marquis Orozco's infield single. Skylar Frey 's double scored Orozco and Jonah Garrison, increasing the lead to 7-1. 

In the fifth, the Vikings scored their final two runs. 

The Eagles then put the game out of reach with five runs in the sixth. 

Frey went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs, and two RBI. 

Cullum singled, doubled, scored, and drove in a run. 

Biermann (3-for-4) had two singles, a double, a walk, a run, and an RBI. 

Zach Diewert walked three times, scored, and stole two bases. 

Warken had a single, a run, and two RBI. 

Orozco collected a single, a run, and an RBI. 

Pinch-hitter Bradley Harmon hit an RBI single. 

Chavez Fernander (2-0) picked up the win with two shutout innings in relief of Jordan Spicer

In four innings Spicer allowed three runs on eight hits. 

Justin Gill gave up one hit in two innings, striking out three. 

Pat Doudican finished the game, holding the Vikings hitless in the ninth while recording two strikeouts.

The Eagles (12-2, No. 3 FCSAA, No. 11 NJCAA) face Palm Beach State College (7-3, No. 8 FCSAA) Friday at 5 p.m. at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.
