Eagles top Titans for second win

Polk State improved to 2-0 today with a 5-2 win over Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne. 

After each team scored a run in the first inning, the Eagles added three more in the second inning. 

The Titans responded with a solo run in the bottom of the second, but the Eagles held them scoreless for the rest of the game. 

Polk State added a run in the top of the ninth. 

Jonah Garrison went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. 

Zach Diewert and Skylar Frey each had two hits and scored a run. 

Zach Scott singled, walked, and scored twice. 

Austin Hoffman had a walk, an RBI, and a run scored. 

Zach Biermann singled and stole a base. 

Raudy Martinez had a sacrifice fly and an RBI. 

Cole Warken also drove in a run. 

Starting pitcher Shameko Smith (1-0) got the win, working five innings and allowing two runs on four hit while walking one and striking out six. 

Relievers Drew Marino, Cole Crowder, Zach Schneider, and Justin Tworek combined to hold the Titans to one hit and no runs over the final four innings.  

Tworek picked up his second save of the season. 

The Eagles (1-0, No. 4 FCSAA, No. 11 NJCAA) travel to Babson Park on Monday for a 6 p.m. game against the Webber International University JV.
