Instead of staying overnight in a hotel, Polk State baseball went camping when the team traveled to Marianna, Fla., to play in the Chipola Fall Classic Sept. 16-17.

Athletic Director Bing Tyus owns land in the area, so players and coaches camped out on Bing's property.

"I think it served as an opportunity for guys to spend some quality time together," said Head Coach Al Corbeil.

Perhaps team bonding also helped performance on the field.

Against Northwest Florida, the Eagles blasted four home runs in a 9-1 victory. Zach Biermann hit two, Raudy Martinez had one, and Zach Diewert had a grand slam.

The game against Tallahassee was rained out.
