Eagles win third straight Suncoast Conference Championship

Polk State captured the 2016 Suncoast Conference Championship today with a 10-1 win over South Florida State College in Avon Park. 

The Eagles have now won three straight conference championships and five of the last six. 

Today's game ended after six innings due to rain. 

The Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. They added two more runs in the second, one in the third, and three in the fourth. 

Cody Burgess went 2-for-3 with a single, a home run, a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored. 

He also stole his 42nd base of the season, breaking Luke Parker's school record (2015) of 41 in a season. 

Burgess leads the FCSAA DI and the NJCAA DI in stolen bases. 

Zach Diewert also singled and hit a home run. He walked once, stole a base, scored twice, and drove in two runs. 

Cole Warken went 3-for-4 with a double, two singles, two runs, and two RBI. 

Joe Strzelecki tripled, walked, scored a run, and drove in a run. 

Yeison Gomez went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, a run scored, and an RBI. 

Brandon Gali singled twice, stole a base, and drove in a run. 

Skylar Frey walked and scored a run. 

Zach Biermann scored a run, and Isaiah Cullum had an RBI. 

Zak Spivy (5-2) pitched six innings, allowing one run on four hits while walking one and striking out two. 

The Eagles (35-13, 20-7, No. 3 FCSAA, No. 18 NJCAA) have won five straight games. They face State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.
