Eagles soar past South Florida 8-3

Polk State defeated South Florida State College 8-3 last night in Avon Park. 

The Eagles have won three straight games and nine of their last 10. 

Polk State scored three runs in the top of the first and never trailed in the game. 

The Eagles added two runs in the second and three in the ninth. 

Jacob Kelley (4-2) earned the win in relief. He pitched six shutout innings, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out six. 

Starting pitcher Joe Strzelecki worked three innings and gave up three hits and three runs, walking four and striking out two. 

Zach Diewert had a big night at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a home run, a stolen base, and five RBI. 

Skylar Frey singled twice, walked twice, and scored twice. 

Strzelecki had a single, a walk, a run, and a stolen base. 

Zach Biermann drew three walks, singled, and scored a run. 

Cody Burgess went 2-for-5 with an RBI. 

Brandon Gali had a walk, a sacrifice, and a run scored. 

Isaiah Cullum walked once and scored twice. 

The Eagles (33-13, 18-7, No. 3 FCSAA) face South Florida again Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.
