Eagles down Hawks for fifth straight win

Polk State extended its winning streak to five games today, beating Hillsborough Community College 9-8 in Tampa. 

Trailing 5-4, the Eagles scored a run in the seventh and four in the ninth, taking a 9-5 lead into the bottom of the ninth. 

The Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the inning but could get no closer. 

The Eagles had 11 hits in the game. 

Joe Strzelecki went 3-for-5 with two runs and four RBI. 

Yeison Gomez singled, doubled, and drove in two runs. 

Zach Diewert had a single, a double, a walk, and three runs. 

Isaiah Cullum singled, walked, and scored twice. 

Brandon Gali had a single, a sacrifice, and an RBI. 

Skylar Frey walked twice, scored once, and drove in a run. 

Cody Burgess had two singles. 

Zach Biermann walked and scored a run. 

Justin Tworek (5-1) got the win in relief, and Zach Schneider earned his third save. 

Zak Spivy started on the mound, and Jacob Kelley, Tommy Romero, and Chad Tworek also worked in relief. 

The Eagles (29-12, 14-6, No. 6 FCSAA) face Hillsborough for the final time in the regular season Monday at 6 p.m. at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.
