With two outs in the top of the ninth and a runner on first base, Zach Schneider struck out the potential tying run, and Polk State defeated St. Petersburg College 7-5 tonight at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.

With the win, the Eagles moved into sole possession of first place in the Suncoast Conference.

The Titans got on the board in the first inning on an error, a single, and a fielder's choice.

The Eagles answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Isaiah Cullum's bases-loaded single scored two runs, and Cole Warken's sacrifice fly increased the lead to 3-1.

After St. Pete made it 3-2 in the top of the second, the Eagles added two more runs in the bottom of the inning on Zach Biermann's double.

The Titans scored solo runs in the fifth and seventh, cutting the lead to 5-4.

In the bottom of the seventh, Cody Burgess reached base on a fielder's choice, stole second, took third on an overthrow, and scored on Brandon Gali's sacrifice fly, increasing the lead to 6-4.

Cole Warken's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth gave Polk State a 7-4 advantage.

The Titans led off the top of the ninth with back-to-back infield hits. The Eagles then turned a double play as the lead runner moved to third. He scored on an RBI single before Schneider got the final out and picked up the save.

He gave up two hits and one run in 2.1 innings while walking none and striking out two.

Jacob Kelley (3-2) earned the win in relief. In 3.1 innings he allowed two hits and two unearned runs, walking one and striking out three.

Starting pitcher Joe Strzelecki worked 3.1 innings, yielding five hits and two runs while walking two and striking out five.

Gali went 1-for-2 with a run, a sacrifice fly, a walk, a stolen base, and an RBI.

Biermann and Cullum each scored a run and drove in two.

Warken had a single, a sacrifice fly, and two RBI.
