Eagles lose 8-5 to South Florida

Polk State dropped an 8-5 decision to South Florida State College tonight at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven. 

The Panthers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. They added a solo run in the fifth, two in the sixth, and two in the eighth. 

The Eagles scored solo runs in the third and fourth innings and three in the ninth. 

Starting pitcher Jordan Spicer (5-1) suffered his first loss of the season.  In five innings he allowed three hits and four runs, walking three and striking out one. 

Johnnie Schneider and Justin Gill each gave up two runs. 

Tommy Romero and Chad Tworek held the Panthers scoreless. 

Brandon Gali went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run. 

Joe Strzelecki singled twice and scored twice. 

Cody Burgess had two singles, w walk, a stolen base, a sacrifice fly, and an RBI. 

Skylar Frey collected a single, an RBI, and two walks. 

Raudy Martinez singled, scored a run, walked, and stole a base. 

Zach Biermann had a walk and an RBI. 

Yeison Gomez singled and scored a run. 

The Eagles (20-11, 5-5, No. 7 FCSAA) play South Florida State College again tomorrow at 6 p.m. in Avon Park.
