Eagles slug 4 HRs in 12-6 win

Polk State blasted four home runs tonight, beating Hillsborough Community College 12-6 at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven. 

Zach Biermann, Isaiah Cullum, Zach Diewert, and Raudy Martinez each hit a round-tripper. 

The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Cody Burgess singled, moved to third on Skylar Frey's single, and scored on a wild pitch. 

They added a run in the third when Cullum hit a solo home run to left field. 

The Hawks rallied for three runs in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. 

Polk State answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning, including a solo homer by Biermann, to go up 6-3. 

The Eagles put two more runs on the board in the sixth, when Martinez and Diewert blasted back-to-back home runs. 

The Hawks scored solo runs in the seventh and eight, cutting the deficit to 8-5. 

The Eagles answered with their final four runs in the bottom of the eighth, taking a 12-5 lead. 

Hillsborough added a solo run in the ninth. 

Starting pitcher Jordan Spicer improved to 5-0. In five innings, he allowed five hits and three runs (one unearned) while walking two and striking out three. 

Zach Schneider worked three innings in relief. He gave up three runs (one unearned) on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts. 

Jacob Kelley took over in the ninth and allowed no hits while walking one. 

Burgess singled, scored three runs, walked, and drove in a run. 

Biermann had three RBI, a run, a walk, and a sacrifice fly. 

Cullum drove in two runs and scored a run. 

Martinez had a run, a walk, and an RBI. 

Diewert scored twice, drove in a run, and stole a base. 

Brandon Gali had a walk, a sacrifice, a stolen base, and a run scored. 

Yeison Gomez singled, walked twice, stole a base, and scored twice.

Joe Strzelecki singled and walked. 

The Eagles (18-9, 3-3, No. 7 FCSAA) face Florida SouthWestern State College on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.
