Eagles start conference play with 10-2 win at St. Petersburg

The high-flying Polk State offense had 11 hits last night to start Suncoast Conference play with a 10-2 win over St. Petersburg College in St. Petersburg. 

The Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the second inning. They added solo runs in the third and eighth and a pair of runs in the ninth. 

Joe Strzelecki (3-1) worked 5.2 innings, allowing nine hits and two runs (one unearned) while walking two and striking out three. 

Zach Schneider earned his second save with 3.1 innings in relief. He gave up no hits or runs and struck out two. 

Yeison Gomez had two doubles, a run scored, and three RBI. 

Cole Warken went 2-for-4 with a single, a triple, a walk, two runs, and two RBI. 

Cody Burgess singled twice, score a run, and drove in a run. 

Isaiah Cullum had a double, a walk, a run scored, and an RBI. 

Zach Biermann had a single, a sacrifice fly, a run, and an RBI. 

Raudy Martinez singled twice and scored a run. 

Skylar Frey had a single and a run scored. 

Zach Diewert scored two runs, and Brandon Gali had an RBI. 

The Eagles (16-6, 1-0, No. 9 FCSAA) play St. Petersburg again Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter haven.
