Cullum’s walkoff hit gives Eagles 5-4 win over Tampa JV

Isaiah Cullum's bases-loaded double with two out in the bottom of the ninth gave Polk State a 5-4 win over the University of Tampa JV today at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.

The Eagles scored three runs in the fifth and another in the seventh to take a 4-0 lead.

The Spartans rallied for four runs in the ninth to tie the game.

After Cody Burgess, Yeison Gomez, and Raudy Martinez reached base safely in the bottom of the inning, Cullum delivered his game-winning hit.

For the game, Cullum went 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI.

Cole Warken singled, doubled twice, stole a base, and scored a run.

Burgess had two hits, two runs, and an RBI.

Zach Biermann collected a single, a double, and an RBI.

Gomez went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Tommy Gamble had a sacrifice, a stolen base, and a run scored.

Starting pitcher Joe Strzelecki allowed no runs and one hit inn four innings while walking two and striking out seven.

Jonathan Bermudez gave up no runs and one hit in two innings. He had three strikeouts.

Chad Tworek worked an inning, striking out two and giving up no runs or hits.

Jacob Kelley (1-0) worked the final two innings and got the win. He yielded four runs on seven hits and had five strikeouts.

The Eagles (9-4, No. 10, FCSAA) travel to Tampa on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. rematch with the University of Tampa JV.
