Eagles get 5-3 road win over Eastern Florida

Polk State defeated Eastern Florida State College 5-3 today in Melbourne.  

The Eagles scored two runs in the first inning when Yeison Gomez hit a two-out double and Zach Biermann followed with a home run. 

The Titans tied the game with a run in their half of the inning. 

The Eagles took a 3-2 lead in the third inning on Gomez's solo home run. 

Eastern Florida tied the score at 3 with a run in the fourth.  

Polk State then added a run in the fifth when Cody Burgess walked and scored on Brandon Gali's double. 

The Eagles scored their final run in the sixth after Gomez doubled and scored on a single by Cole Warken

Starting pitcher Jordan Spicer (2-0) got the win, pitching five innings and allowing three runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out five. 

Zach Schneider pitched three shutout innings in relief, giving up three hits and striking out two. 

Jacob Kelley worked the ninth inning, picking up his third save. He gave up a hit and a walk and struck out two. 

The Eagles (7-4, No. 10, FCSAA) play St. Johns River State College tomorrow at 5 p.m. at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.
