Polk State came up a run short today, losing 5-4 to Santa Fe College at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.
Santa Fe scored first, putting three runs on the board in the second inning.
The Saints came back in the third, adding two more runs on a home run.
In the fifth, Isaiah Cullum singled, took second on a wild pitch, and scored form third on a passed ball with the bases loaded, cutting the lead to 5-2.
Zach Diewert's solo home run in the sixth made it a 5-3 game.
In the seventh, Cullum led off the inning with a walk and scored on Raudy Martinez's double, trimming the deficit to 5-4.
Starting pitcher Joe Strzelecki (1-1) took the loss. He worked six innings and allowed two hits and five unearned runs while walking two and striking out six.
Johnnie Schneider worked the final three innings. He walked two, struck out two, and did not give up a hit.
Cullum finished with two hits, two runs, and a walk.
Martinez had two walks along with a double and an RBI.
Diewert and Tommy Gamble each had an RBI.
The Eagles (6-4, No. 9 FCSAA) hit the road Tuesday for a 5 p.m. game at Eastern Florida State College.
