Polk State defeated Seminole State College of Florida 5-4 in 10 innings today in Sanford.
In the bottom of the 10th, reliever Jacob Kelley retired the first hitter before the second batter reached first on an error. The next hitter doubled into the gap in right center, cutting the lead to 5-4.
With the potential tying run on second, Kelly struck out the next two Raiders, earning his first win of the season.
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, when Zach Biermann doubled and scored on Cullum's home run.
The Raiders responded with two runs in the third and one run in the fifth for a 3-2 lead.
Biermann tied the game with a solo home run – his third in the last two games – in the sixth inning. For the game he went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored.
Cullum (3-for-5) also had a double and a home run along with two runs and three RBI.
Warken went 3-for-5 and scored a run.
Martinez collected two singles and an RBI.
Brandon Gali singled and walked.
Starting pitcher Zak Spivy worked six innings, allowing six hits and three unearned runs while walking one and striking out four.
The Eagles (6-2, No. 9 FCSAA) hit the road Friday for a 2 p.m. game at Palm Beach State College.
