Polk State's seven-game winning streak ended tonight as the Eagles dropped a 3-1 decision to Hillsborough Community College in Winter Haven.

The Hawks broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when they scored a run on a walk, a wild pitch, a sacrifice fly, and another wild pitch.

The Eagles answered in the bottom of the fourth when Kyle Jackson drilled a pitch over the left-field fence for a solo home run.

The Eagles would not score again, as they left at least one runner on base in each of the following innings.

Hillsborough added solo runs in the sixth and eighth innings.

Jordan Barrett (9-2) took the loss. In six innings he allowed six hits and two runs (one unearned) while walking two and striking out three.

Luis Ferrer pitched one and one-third innings, giving up two hits and one run.

In the final one and two-third innings, Jose Pupo retired every hitter he faced.

Cody Burgess singled twice, and Matt Piatt, Brandon Gali, and Keith Oren each singled once.

The Eagles (34-14, 16-7, No. 4 FCSAA) play Hillsborough Community College again tomorrow at 1 p.m. at New York Yankees Community Field in Tampa.

The Eagles can clinch the Suncoast Conference championship with a win or a loss by State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota.
