Gali’s tenth-inning single gives Eagles ninth straight win

Brandon Gali's base hit scored Matt Piatt in the bottom of the tenth inning as Polk State won its ninth straight game today, beating Hillsborough Community College 10-9 in Winter Haven. 

Trailing 4-1 in the fourth, the Eagles scored five runs to take a 6-4 lead. 

The Hawks got a run back in the sixth, but the Eagles added two more in the bottom of the inning for an 8-5 advantage. 

Hillsborough then got four runs in the top of the seventh to go up 9-8, but the Eagles got a run in their half of the frame to tie the score at 9-9. 

The Eagles collected 15 hits, and every starter had at least one. 

Luke Parker went three-for-three with a run scored and two stolen bases.  

Piatt had two hits and scored twice. 

JD Osborne singled, walked, stole two bases, scored two runs, and drove in a run. 

Kaylor Kulina doubled and scored twice. 

Andrew Stroud had two singles and three RBI. 

Gali singled twice, stole a base, and drove in one run. 

Cole Ondrejka went two-for-four with a run and an RBI. 

Keith Oren singled, scored a run, and drove in two runs. 

Cody Burgess had a single, a run scored, and an RBI. 

Cody Gamble (2-1) got the win. He pitched the final two innings and gave up just one hit while walking one and striking out one. 

Jacob Kelley and allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits in four innings. 

Jose Pupo gave up one run in relief, and the Hawks got four runs off Luis Ferrer

Jordan Guerrero allowed no hits or runs in one inning of work. 

The Eagles (25-8, 9-1, No. 5 in the FCSAA Coaches' Poll) play Hillsborough Community College on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Tampa.
