Polk State baseball got back in the win column today, beating Daytona State College 3-2 in Daytona Beach.
The Eagles got on the board first, scoring twice in the fourth inning, and added another run in the seventh. The Falcons scored a run in the sixth and another in the ninth.
For the Eagles, Zach Bullard doubled, walked, and drove in a run in three trips to the plate.
Brandon Gali went one-for-two with two walks and a stolen base.
JD Osborne had three hits and scored a run.
Kyle Jackson had two hits in three at-bats.
Matt Piatt had a one-for-three game and scored a run.
Former Lakeland High School pitcher Brad Labozetta (1-1) got the win, his first as an Eagle. Pitching five and two-thirds of an inning, he struck out three, walked four, and allowed four hits and one run.
Luis Ferrer came out of the bullpen and held Daytona State hitless for two and one-third of an inning. He recorded three strikeouts and one walk.
Cody Gamble worked the ninth inning for his second save. He struck out one, walked two, and allowed one run.
The Eagles (2-3) play Daytona State again Saturday at 1 p.m. in Winter Haven.
Jim Selph, who played for Polk State's first baseball team 50 years ago, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at 12:50 p.m.
