Sweet and Kulina earn All America honors

The NJCAA announced the 2014 Baseball All-America teams Tuesday, and they include Polk State sophomores Daniel Sweet and Casey Kulina.

Sweet was named to the First Team and Kulina made the Second Team.

"What an honor for Daniel and Casey to be selected as All-Americans," said head coach Al Corbeil.

"They were both two of the hardest working players I've ever coached, and it's rewarding to see them get recognized on a national level like that."

Sweet, an outfielder and leadoff hitter, led the state of Florida with a .411 batting average. He scored 56 runs, drove in 45, and stole 30 bases.

He is playing this summer in the Cape Cod Baseball League, the premier amateur league in the nation.

Kulina, a starting pitcher, led all Florida hurlers and ranked second in the country with 12 wins. In 93 innings he posted a 2.61 ERA, walking 16 and striking out 53.

In May, the NJCAA named Kulina State Pitcher of the Year and Sweet State Player of the Year.
