Eagles rally to win 14th in a row

Polk State came from behind in the seventh inning and went on to win its 14th game in a row, beating the Rollins College JV 3-2 tonight in Winter Haven. 

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles tied the game when Cole Ondrejka (2-for-3) hit a one-out single with the bases loaded, scoring two. 

Daniel Sweet followed with a walk to reload the bases, and Shane Gordon (2-for-4 with two stolen bases) grounded out to bring home the go-ahead run. 

In the top of the eighth, Rollins got the first two batters on base before Devin Vainer, working in relief of starter Hunter Kyzar, retired the side on a fly ball and two groundouts. 

Jose Serrano came out of the bullpen and pitched a scoreless ninth inning, getting a ground out and two strikeouts. 

Vainer (6-4) got the win, and Serrano recorded his sixth save. 

Sam Machonis (1-for-4), Matt Piatt (1-for-4), and Alec Wong each scored for the Eagles. Pinch-runner Luke Parker stole two bases on back-to-back pitches in the bottom of the eighth. 

The Eagles (33-11, 19-5 in the Suncoast Conference) go on the road Saturday to play Hillsborough Community College at 1 p.m.
