Eagles beat Hillsborough in extra innings

Hayden Kelly's pinch-hit single sent today's game into extra innings, and the Eagles went on to win 11-8 in 11 innings.

Down 8-4 in the top of the 9th, Polk State tied today's game at Hillsborough Community College on Hayden Kelly's pinch-hit, 2-RBI single. When Hillsborough failed to score in its half of the 9th, the game went into extra innings.

The Eagles rallied in the top of the 11th  when, with two outs and the bases empty, Casey Schroeder singled, JD Osborne tripled, Sam Machonis walked,  Matt Piatt drove in Osborne, and Luke Parker followed with a single, giving the Eagles an 11-8 lead.

Working his second inning in relief, Jose Serrano set down the side in order in the bottom of the 9th  for the win.  

The same two teams meet again Friday at 6 p.m. in Winter Haven.
