Eagles top Tampa twice

Polk State beat the University of Tampa JV twice today in baseball action in Winter Haven. 

In the opener, EJ Cordero (2-0) pitched a complete game as the Eagles won 7-1 in seven innings. He walked three and struck out three. 

The Eagles backed him with nine hits. Arturo Tabales went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Daniel Sweet (1-for-2) walked twice, stole two bases, and scored three runs, and Cody DeNoyelles (2-for-4) stole a base, scored a run, and drove in a run. 

Hayden Kelly had two RBI, while Casey Schroeder and JD Osborne each drove in a run. 

In game two, Jordan Barrett (3-1) got the win in relief as Polk State won 9-4 in seven innings. Cody Gamble started, and Jose Pupo, Hunter Kyzar, Devin Vainer, and Justin Phelps worked out of the bullpen. 

In a 2-for-3 performance, Daniel Sweet walked twice, stole twice, tripled, drove in one run and scored two. Luke Parker (3-for-4) swiped three bases, doubled, scored twice and had two RBI. 

Cody DeNoyelles and JD Osborne each scored a run and drove in two runs, while Hayden Kelly and Sam Machonis each had an RBI as the Eagles collected 13 hits in the nightcap. 

Polk State improves to 18-10 (7-4 in Suncoast Conference). The Eagles hit the road tomorrow for a 1 p.m. game against South Florida State College.
