Kelly, Schroeder Blast Eagles Over Palm Beach

The fifth-ranked Polk State College Eagles (6-2) scored four runs in the 12th inning late Friday to defeat defending state champion Palm Beach State College on the road.

Tied 5-5 in the top of the 12th,  sophomore Alec Wong (Rockledge) doubled and moved to third on a bunt by Sophomore Cody DeNoyelles (West Orange). Following an intentional walk to Sam Machonis, sophomore Hayden Kelly (Inverness) belted a two-run double off the center field wall to make it 7-5.

Sophomore Casey Schroeder (Ohio) made it 9-5 as he slammed a two-run bomb over the right field fence.

The Eagles pounded Palm Beach for 17 hits in all, three by sophomore Daniel Sweet (Mississippi).

Sophomore Hunter Kyzar (Lake Worth) posted the victory in relief. He threw three hitless innings and fanned four.

Jose Pupo (Leto) was just as strong in relief, throwing six, one-hit innings. He struck out four.
