Polk State College's right-handed pitcher Matt Pearce (Bonita Springs) was named NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 22-28.
Pearce was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in one appearance during the voting period.
He threw a three-hit shutout in the Eagles' 4-0 win over South Florida State on April 26. He faced one batter over the minimum, fanned two and did not allow a walk in a complete-game performance, which extended his scoreless inning streak to 17.
Pearce (6-1) has thrown three-complete games in a row for the eighth-ranked Eagles (34-16).
He fanned 10 in a 4-2 complete-game victory over Hillsborough on April 20.
Pearce also struck out 10 in an 8-3 complete-game victory over South Florida State on April 12.
He held State College of Florida to one run on five hits over eight innings on April 5.
Pearce was recently named a Suncoast Conference First Team member.
Polk State College coach Al Corbeil gave Pearce the team's Bulldog award on Sunday at the annual athletic banquet.
