Polk State College freshman Matt Pearce (Bonita Springs) extended his scoreless streak to 17 innings Friday as he pitched a complete-game 4-0 victory over South Florida (6-21/14-41) in the Eagles' last regular season game in Winter Haven.
Pearce (6-1) faced one batter over the minimum as his teammates turned two double plays behind him. Catcher Erik Hindmon (Ocala) threw out a base runner and Paul Roundtree (Plant City) made a diving catch in right field behind him.
"That's a great outing," said Polk State coach Al Corbeil. "It was a well-played game with good defense. Matt's last four outings have been top notch. He's pitching like a No. 1. We hope to get to the state tournament so he can continue."
The Eagles (34-16/14-14) wait for the results of Hillsborough's final three games to see if they advance to the FCSAA playoffs.
Friday Brett Jones (Plant City) went 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored, three stolen bases and an RBI.
Cody DeNoyelles (Windermere) added two hits.
Daniel Sweet (Mississippi) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
