Sweet Hits for Cycle as Eagles Top Titans

Polk State College freshman Daniel Sweet (Mississippi) hit for the cycle as the sixth-ranked Eagles (28-9/9-7) defeated St. Petersburg 13-5 Saturday on the road.

Sweet was 5-for-5 with a home run, triple, double, single, a walk, three runs scored, three stolen bases and two RBI as the Eagles won the first of the three-game series.

Polk freshman Sam Machonis (Tampa) went 5-for-6 with four RBI.

Freshman Colyn O'Connell (Dunedin/1-3) posted his first victory of the season. O'Connell held the Titans to two runs, one earned, on two hits over six innings. He fanned three.

Polk sophomore Brett Jones (Plant City) added three hits and stole three bases.

The Eagles host St. Petersburg Monday at 6 p.m.
