Former Polk State College Eagle shortstop Conor Szczerba received two honors this week.
Szczerba, who plays for nearby Florida Southern College, was named Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writer'sAssociation and as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week.
His efforts led the Mocs to four victories and a three-game sweep over North Alabama.
Szczerba posted multiple hits in four games, including five, extra-base hits.
For the week, he hit two doubles and hit three home runs, including hitting two home runs in the series finale against North Alabama and recorded a 1.250 slugging percentage.
He was also 3-for-4 in the North Alabama series with two home runs and three runs scored.
The Polk State College transfer finished the week with a .600 on-base percentage, didn't commit an error in 21 fielding chances and had one stolen base.
For the 2013 season, Szczerba is second on the team with a .400 batting average and he has recorded 16 hits.
He's hit three home runs and has scored a team-best 13 runs and is tied for the team lead in RBIs with nine.
In addition, he has hit two doubles, has drawn five walks and is 5-for-6 on stolen bases.
Szczerba was the Suncoast Player of the Year for 2012 with Polk State College.
