Polk Notches 2-1 Victory over State College of Florida

WINTER HAVEN - Polk defeated host State College of Florida on Saturday afternoon to take game two of the series 2-1.

With the win the Eagles will win the three game set and improve to 31-8 and 7-4 in Suncoast Conference play. State College of Florida drops to 24-13-1 overall and 6-5 in league action.

Sophomore Brian Johnson allowed 10 hits over 8 2/3 innings and he struck out six before freshman Chase Sparkman came on to strike out the final hitter for Polk.

Offensively, sophomore Conor Szczerba went 1-for-3 and was hit by a pitch for a school record 19th time this season.

Freshman Erik Hindmon and sophomore Ryne Knuth delivered RBI singles for the Eagles.

The win gave The Eagles a one-game lead in the Suncoast Conference standings over State College of Florida.

The Eagles and Manatees complete their three game series Monday evening with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
